Workshop “Review of current RC reporting and verification process”

On January 17-18, 2013 the Ukrainian Chemists Union held a workshop «Review of current RC reporting and verification process» with the financial assistance of the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) and support of the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic).

The Workshop was attended by the representatives of Ukrainian chemical industry including RC managers from PJSC "Azot" (Cherkasy), PJSC "Rivneazot" (Rivne), OJSC "Odesa Port Plant" (Odesa), PJSC "Severodonetsk Azot Association" (Severodonetsk), PJSC "Concern Stirol" (Gorlivka), PJSC "Crimea TITAN" (Armyansk, Crimea), PJSC "Crimea soda plant" (Krasnoperekopsk,Crimea) and occupational healths and safety specialists from non-member companies: OJSC "Ukrplastic" (Kyiv), SO Company "Ukrkhimtransamiak" (Kyiv) as well as Ukrainian Chemists Union specialists and other stakeholders.

Cefic Responsible Care Manager Mr. Sjoerd Looijs was a keynote speaker on RC in sustainability context and presented latest developments on KPI and performance reporting. He acquainted the audience with the global experience of the RC implementation, its accomplishments and future prospects. Mr. S.Looijs especially emphasized on the leading role of national associations and companies in implementation of the main principles of the Program and importance of corporate social responsibility.

Responsible Care Coordinator Mr. O.Sadovskyi presented information about the current status and prospects of RC initiative in Ukrainian Chemical industry sector followed by a discussion.

Director of safety department “Azot” plant, Cherkasy L.Zinchenko shared best practices and lessons learner of RC implementation.

Representative from State Research Institute for Technical and Economic Information in Chemical Industry (NDITEKHIM) Mr. A.Mukomela presented updated guiding documents for KPI reporting. During the second day of the workshop RC managers received training on planning of RC activities for the next period and KPI reporting process.

During the Workshop participants discussed a wide range of issues related to RC implementation in Ukraine. The UCU provided participating companies with recommendations for adjustment of their 2011 data. As a result of discussion, guiding documents for reporting of RC performance were updated. The ways of improvement of current RC reporting and verification process for Ukrainian chemical companies were identified and agreed.
